I wanted to send out a quick update as to where the season stands and some of the events that are quickly approaching on our calendar. We are still abiding by the Governor's stay at home order that is in effect until April 6th.
- MTAA Swing Into Spring Tournament - we sent out a communication to all teams that we are cancelling the tournament that was going to be held this weekend at Cousler Park. This is very unfortunate because we had another successful tournament planned with approximately 25 teams registered to play. This is a huge blow to our fund raising efforts, as this is our largest fund raiser that helps us offset a lot of our operating costs.
- Opening Day scheduled for Saturday, April 18th is going to have to be cancelled as well. With the President just announcing an extension on the social distancing order it would not be of our best interest to hold such a large gathering at this time. We will look to explore other options maybe once the weather gets nice and we are finally allowed to resume our normal lives.
- MTAA Donation Raffle - This will still be conducted once we are able to get the teams together and the tickets dispersed.
- MTAA Bowling Night at Colony Park Lanes is cancelled, we are looking to reschedule this event for a later date. Anyone that has paid for their tickets will get their money refunded.
At this time we are still very optimistic that our regular seasons for both baseball and softball will still be played. Let's keep in mind that we normally do not start baseball games till the end of April/beginning of May and softball the beginning of May. The weather has been so nice and cooperative that it is very unfortunate that we have not been able to take advantage of it with our teams practicing early. We have been in communication with the other organizations that we play and all are on the same page, that we will get our recreation seasons in at some point, even if that means playing into June or July. Baseball and softball were both meant to be played in the summer, this year the rec seasons will be sure to utilize that!
The MTAA board of directors appreciates your understanding and cooperation in these challenging times. We all look forward to being able to get back to resuming our every day lives, including our passion for coaching, watching, and playing the great games of baseball and softball!
